The highway of the upright turns aside from evil; whoever guards his way preserves his life. Proverbs 16:17
In many areas of life it seems at first glance as if the good always suffer at the hands of the wicked. Circumstances frequently occur where it seems as if those who are living righteously are the losers, while the people who live through shady practices appear to be doing well.
This results in people saying that honesty does not pay. When people embrace this kind of attitude, they run the danger giving in to temptation, lowering their personal standards and compromising their principles.
The teachings of Jesus regularly reminds us that there is no point in trying just to please ourselves or other people; seeking our reward now, rather than waiting for the righteousness of the Kingdom of God; compromising rather than upholding our principles.
If you long for a peaceful and fulfilling life, it is essential to remain true to the teachings of Jesus. This is infinitely more worthwhile than giving into people around you. You will one day be called to account before God and will have to answer for the way you have chosen to live your life.
If you allow the Holy Spirit to come into your life and take control, you will discover that the strength of your willpower depends on your faith and it is this that enables you to overcome temptation. You can live like Christ – in a way that is pleasing to God.
