“Finally my brothers, aim for perfection. Listen to my appeal; be of one mind, live in peace and the God of love and peace will be with you.” (2 Corinthians 13:11)
The Apostle Paul is setting quiet a standard here for Christians; he speaks
about aiming for perfection. Can anyone be perfect? Of course not in this body born in sin. The only true perfection comes from God because He is perfect in all His ways. His laws are perfect, He is perfect in beauty; His plans are perfect and He is perfect in knowledge.
It is obvious that we cannot attain such perfection. So what is the Apostle Paul is speaking about?
The Oxford Dictionary describes perfection:
“Completely corresponding to a definition, pattern or description.”
In the Old Testament, when God gave Moses the Ten Commandments He said that we should love Him with ALL OUR MIND, ALL OUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL OUR HEART. Now that is aiming for perfection…the love of God. We need to develop a relationship with God the Father if we are going to aim for perfection. If you are true to yourself, answer this: when last have you spoken to the Father? When last have you gotten on your knees in reverence and worship?
God’s love for us is built on His love for mankind. He gave His Son to show us how much He loves us (John 3:16).
Listen to what He says in 2 Corinthians 6:16:
“What agreement is there between the temple of God (us) and idols (the world)? For we are the temple of the Living God. As God has said, ‘I will live with them and I will walk among them and I will be their God and they will be my people.
Therefore, come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch not unclean things and I will receive you. I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”
My friends, perfection comes from the heart and we need to be careful what we put in it. put God first and reverence Him with everything you have.
