My soul makes its boast in the LORD; let the humble hear and be glad... Psalm 34:1
When facing a crisis, do you first run to people for help, rather than running to God? Perhaps you don’t know where else to go.
Our loving Father may use people to carry out His plans, but He longs to be our first and best resource.
When David fled from Saul’s death threats, he ran to Achish, the king of Gath—a Philistine. What was he thinking? As Achish’s men recounted David’s rumoured slaughter of Philistines by the tens of thousands, David again feared death. To make a quick escape, he acted like a maniac—scratching at the gate and drooling down his beard. What a way to represent God.
After learning from his mistake, David proclaimed:
Those who look to him (the Lord) are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame (Psalm 34:5).
In other words, our faces were meant to be covered with God’s glory, not with drool. David further testifies, “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles” (Psalm 34:17). No human helper can promise that. God want to be our 1st in everything - trust Him, He will never let you down!
