September was a very interesting month in terms of the world economy. We saw downs and more downs in the economic structures and even violence broke out in the UK. The question that came to my mind was simply, “What does this mean and where are we heading?”
As I studied Isaiah 60, I suddenly became very excited as I realised that Christians actually have the answer! In Isaiah 60 we read the call to arise and shine. It says that darkness covers the earth and deep darkness the people, but that we should arise and shine, for our light has come! It points out that people will come to glory of the light that we shine. Isn’t that just amazing!
As I pondered on how we will arise and shine, I came to the conclusion that we can only shine if we understand God’s economic structures and live within that reality as opposed to the world’s economic system.
Here are a few pointers as to how to live in God’s economic system:
What is significant with regards to the above is that it is almost impossible to live the principles by just changing your behaviour. Behavioural change is always linked to the root system that feeds you as an individual. That brings the question as to what feeds you through your root system? There are two trees and two root systems. The one tree is called the Me Tree and the other one is called the He Tree. Both these trees are fed by love. The Me Tree is fed by love for money and pleasure and the He Tree is fed by love for God and total surrender to His way.
Let us all make sure that our trees are fed by the He Tree roots! (1 Tim 6:10)
